Rex Ryan Pulls the Ultimate Troll Move Against the Jets
Leave it to Rex Ryan to turn the National Football League into World Wrestling Entertainment.
The Buffalo Bills coach pulled the ultimate troll move on his former team Monday by naming IK Enemkpali the Bills' co-captain for this week's game against the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football, as reported by ESPN.
Enemkpali was the former Gang Green reserve linebacker who notoriously broke Jets quarterback Geno Smith's jaw this past August, causing Smith to miss the first two months of this season. Ryan's Bills then signed Enemkpali the next day.
On Monday, Ryan tried to justify the move to make Enemkpali co-captain against the Jets by saying that he always makes players captains against their former teams.
"I'll get ripped or whatever, but I do this all the time," Ryan told ESPN. "Anybody that's played [against that team], you're gonna see [as a captain]. Will [former Jets tight end Matthew] Mulligan be out there? Yep, he'll be out there.
Added Enemkpali: "It's understood what this game means. Everything is obvious. I don't gotta really talk about it."
What the animated Ryan is doing is also obvious to the Jets.
"Typical Rex," Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall said. "That is a Rex Ryan move. I mean, are you guys surprised?"
Despite this being the first game between the Bills and Jets since Enemkpali sucker-punched Smith, neither are expected to log much playing time — if any — Thursday night.
