Michigan Man With Suspended License Drives During Virtual Court Appearance, Stuns Judge
A man in Ann Arbor, Michigan has gone viral for operating his vehicle during a virtual Zoom court appearance for a suspended license, PEOPLE reports.
Judge Cedric Simpson, who presided over the hearing on May 15, was stunned as Corey Harris, the defendant, came into the virtual court session driving his car.
“Mr. Harris, are you driving?” Judge Simpson asked.
"Actually, I’m pulling into my doctor’s office," Harris replied. “So, just give me one second. I’m parking right now.”
Oblivious to Judge Simpson's confusion at his actions, Harris pulls into the parking space as if nothing is wrong. The court is shocked at his actions.
Eventually, Judge Simpson asked if Harris was parked.
“I’m pulling in right now at this second,” Harris replied. “Yes, I am.”
After asking the public defender why Harris was in court, his attorney requested the case be adjourned.
“Okay, so maybe I don’t understand something. This is a ‘driving while suspended?’ Judge Simpson asked.
“That is correct, Your Honor,” the public defender stated.
“And he was just driving, and he didn’t have a license?”
“Those are the charges, Your Honor, yes,” the public defender said.
“No, I’m looking at his record. He doesn’t have a license. He’s suspended, and he’s just driving,” the judge said.
“That is correct, your honor.”
“I don’t even know why he would do that,” Judge Simpson said before he revoked Harris' bond.
“Defendant is to turn himself into the Washtenaw County jail by 6 p.m. today. Failure to turn himself in will result in a bench warrant with no bond,” Judge Simpson declared.
“Oh my God,” Harris said after Simpson’s decision.
According to Detroit’s WXYZ, Harris was charged with driving with a suspended license in October 2023.
It is not known if Harris has turned himself in.
