Huge Projects for Rick Famuyiwa, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Queen Latifah
Get ready to see some familiar and new faces in front of and behind the camera pretty soon.
In front of the lens, Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett-Smith will reprise their natural roles as besties. According to Deadline, they are in final negotiations for the lead roles in a new Universal comedy called Girl Trip.
Girl Trip focuses on four friends who head on a trip to New Orleans during the annual Essence Festival. While on the trip, the ladies' friendship is taken through the ringer as they get drunk, find romance and even brawl.
Both ladies have worked together behind the scenes on projects like The Secret Life of Bees and Dear Mama, but this is the first time since 1996's classic crime drama Set It Off where the ladies will appear together on screen.
The film, set to be directed by Malcolm Lee (Barbershop 3 and The Best Man Holiday), also stars Regina Hall and will open on July 21, 2017.
In other film news, Dope director Rick Famuyiwa has landed a major project in conjunction with Warner Bros. According to Deadline, he has signed on to direct the feature film The Flash starring Ezra Miller.
Famuyiwa recently received major praise for his direction of the HBO film Confirmation, starring Kerry Washington and Wendell Pierce.
