ScHoolboy Q Coming for Kendrick Lamar’s Top Spot
ScHoolboy Q is never one to bite his tongue. But the Black Hippy MC kept it extra real in his latest interview with FUSE TV. “Kendrick Lamar is everybody’s favorite rapper,” he stated. “He know I’m coming for his spot. I’ve gotta take it. “
Don’t get it twisted. Q carries no bad feelings towards his fellow TDE artist. This is all about healthy competition and the spirit of hip hop. "That’s my brother," says Q. "I love him to death. But I’m better than all them ... in Black Hippy."
As he prepares to release his major label debut, Oxymoron, Q admits that Kendrick’s tremendous success with good Kid, m.A.A.d. city has put the pressure on him.
"I’m very proud of my brother Kendrick," ScHoolboy Q. "I damn near dropped a tear when his album came out — before the sales, just because I was his hype man and I’ve seen him come from here to where he’s at now, number one MC. But yeah if my s--t ain’t as good or better than his, it’s not coming out. That’s the only pressure."
Not that he’s letting the pressure get to him. In fact, he seems very confident in his album, which features production by Hit Boy, Pharrell and Boi 1da. "This s--t is like a layup now," says Q. "It’s so easy."
ScHoolboy will be performing at the Staples Center on Saturday, June 29 along with Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar and Miguel. No word on the rest of the "Druggys with H--s" click.
