Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ To Be Reissued For 40th Anniversary
Cause this is Thriller!
Michael Jackson’s biggest selling album, Thriller, is being reissued this year, celebrating 40 years since its original release, Variety reports.
During its 112th week on Billboard’s album chart, “Thriller” became the first title ever to be certified 20-times platinum by the RIAA, becoming the first album to be certified more than 30-times platinum in 2015 and has been certified platinum 34 times.
The reissue will consist of a double CD featuring the original album and a second disc “full of surprises for fans, including never-released tracks, which were worked on by Michael for the ‘Thriller’ album,” according to the announcement.
This announcement comes after 10 Tony nominations for ‘MJ the Musical,’ which also featured several songs from the album.
In the U.S., Walmart will have an exclusive version of the original Thriller album with an alternate 40th-anniversary cover. In contrast, Target will have an exclusive version of the original album with a commemorative Thriller 40 vinyl slipmat.
Several activations are planned to honor the album with the first drop of new merchandise — featuring the special Thriller 40 logo, now available exclusively through the MichaelJackson.com web store.
