Aoki Lee Simmons Blasts ‘Foul,’ ‘Misogynistic’ DMs Amid Dispute with Dad Russell
Aoki Lee Simmons won’t be silenced amid her family’s public online spat.
Earlier this week, the Harvard graduate took to social media where she accused her father and hip-hop figure, Russell Simmons, of being verbally abusive and controlling and was soon met with a wave of rude comments. The aspiring model later returned to her Instagram Stories, addressing the backlash she received for exposing her famous father.
Sharing a vintage photo of herself and the music executive, Aoki noted that “Until a short time ago, this is the man who told me ‘always defend and look after your mother girls’ and ‘never let a man curse at you, you call daddy if a man ever tries to yell at you or scare you that’s never ok! Real men don’t shout at women and girls.’”
Speaking directly to “all the toxic men in my comments using ‘I’m defending him’ to be foul and talk about all the grievances you have with women, you can save it,” before adding, “It’s pathetic. He would agree I know that for sure.”
In another post, she wrote, ”I wonder how your mothers, sisters, daughters, nieces, girlfriends, wives, would feel seeing some of the sexist, racist, honestly foul comments and messages some of you 'men' are leaving me."
Aoki also acknowledged the “misogynistic stereotypes and names,” and “the absolute hate for women of color” many of the comments left in her DMs have exhibited. She said, "I only see one bitter mess in a DM between a 40+-year-old male stranger yelling at me about 'all the bitter black women' I represent, and it's not the 20-year-old on the receiving end."
The drama seemingly unfolded after Aoki’s younger sister, Ming Lee, wished their mother and former model Kimora Simmons a Happy Father’s Day. This led to the Simmons women exposing what appeared to be years of alleged harassment and abuse.
