This Picture Of Miley Cyrus' Mom Next To A Giant Locker Full Of Weed Has Twitter Calling White Privilege
While legalized marijuana and medicinal use has become widely accepted throughout the US, there are endless people from minority communities reeling from the disproportionately high rates of incarceration, and harsher sentences received before weed became a profitable industry accepted throughout the US justice system.
That said, the privilege often associated with the weed use and sales has become a very sensitive subject for many. Most recently, that privilege was highlighted on social media due to a post from Miley Cyrus’ dad, Billy Ray.
The doting father posting a picture of his wife, Tish, smiling widely as she stood in front of a locker with large plastic sacks of weed.
He wrote, “"Yes! Like I said yesterday @TishCyrus... my how the times are a changing #CrAzYMaMa,” as the caption for his controversial Twitter post.
When she received backlash for the post, Cyrus chimed in writing, “First of all… My husband @billyraycyrus is INSANE, Second, this pictures is also insane, and third this is NOT my weed or my house! Hahah. But if it was, that would be amazing for so many reasons!”
Despite the Cyrus family’s long standing appreciation of weed, commenters on social media quickly called out a possible double standard.
