Snoh Aalegra And Pharrell Williams Drop Off ‘Whoa’ Remix Just In Time For Valentine’s Day
For the first time ever, Snoh Aalegra and legendary producer-songwriter Pharrell Williams have joined musical forces for the release of the remix to Snoh’s hit single “Whoa.”
The R&B slow jam originally appeared on the Swedish-bred R&B songbird’s well-received sophomore project of 2019, Ugh, those feels again. Snoh previously gave a heads up that she was cooking up something with the super producer back in December of 2019 when she posted a photo of herself in the studio with Skateboard P and his famed Neptunes counterpart Chad Hugo, simply captioning the post “2020.”
On Wednesday (Feb. 13), she alerted fans the remix was dropping on Valentine’s Day no less, and the sultry number is the perfect union between Snoh’s velvety vocals and Pharrell’s hip-hop sensibilities. Not too much has changed from the original recording of the song, except for the addition of a new verse from Pharrell towards the middle of the track. It’s a rare occasion to hear a rap verse from P nowadays, but the 13-time Grammy-winner came through in rare form with some bars for the mix:
“I got trigger words that make you realize that you wasn’t feeling like this at first / Drips coming down like little birds, coming from your sky / Baby, listen to your vibe,” P gently rap-sings, coming in shortly after one-minute mark. He enticingly paints a vivid image of some of the things he has in mind for his lover, with his and Aalegra’s voices come together to sing, “And when we mix, we make the Matrix glitch / I’m on you, we undo, okay switch.”
Snoh has been steadily continuing to rise and has even drawn comparisons to the legendary Sade. This latest release comes ahead of another forthcoming project from her. Snoh recently spoke to L'Officiel about her creative process, writing from the heart, and where she’s at on her next album.
“My albums are like diaries and chapters of my life. So it’s really honest. Right now, I’m working on a new album I’m probably going to drop later this year, and I will write about what I am going through right now and this year,” she explained to L'Officiel. “I have a song called “Time” on my previous album. It was about my dad, who I lost 10 years ago to cancer. So it’s different things; it's not just about love. My songs are about things I am going through and learning. I’m trying to describe all aspects of my life.”
Most recently, Snoh also announced the 2020 dates for her tour, Ugh, A Tour Again, which kicks off in March.
