Wanda Sykes Called “Brave” for Taking Her Cancer Fight Public
Ever since Wanda Sykes revealed that she was diagnosed with cancer and underwent a double mastectomy many fans and followers of the 47-year-old Curb Your Enthusiasm star have been discovering the comedienne in an entirely different light.
Cindy Geoghegan from the National Breast Cancer Organization Y-Me.Org is one of them. According to RadarOnline she praised Sykes for the public disclosure of the fight with the disease.
“We are so grateful that Wanda has gone public with the news of her cancer. Breast cancer is a very personal thing and most people don’t come forward, so it was really an act of heroism,” Geoghegan told RadarOnline. “It raises awareness and sends a message to the public, ‘If it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone.’”
Sykes says the cancer was discovered during routine lab work she had following breast reduction surgery. Despite being at stage zero cancer level, the least and most minor form of the disease, the comedian opted for a double mastectomy, due to the breast cancer history in her family.
