Diddy Reassigns Music-Publishing Rights to Several Bad Boy Artists, Including Mase, Biggie, and More
Sean "Diddy" Combs is reportedly opting to return Bad Boy's publishing rights to the artists and writers who played pivotal roles in building the label's enduring legacy. This move comes on the heels of the music company’s 30th anniversary and after years of reports highlighting concerns about its talents' unfair treatment and compensation.
Artists include rapper Mase, singer-songwriter Faith Evans, The Notorious B.I.G.’s estate, The Lox, 112, and “many more” unlisted creators. While details surrounding the deal remain private, it’s said to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Variety reported that most recipients have been located, contacted, and signed all necessary documents.
Mase had been vocal about his ongoing disputes with his former employer, frequently pointing to unresolved financial matters. The “Welcome Back” emcee even recounted an incident where Diddy supposedly turned down a substantial $2 million offer for publishing rights. However, when Diddy appeared on “The Breakfast Club,” he refuted these allegations, contending that Mase owed him $3 million, a claim that the rapper has consistently denied.
The Harlem native’s longtime pal and “It Is What It Is” co-host Cam’ron initially leaked news of the publishing deal on Instagram while promoting his upcoming project “The Lost Files.”
“My n—a murder had to sit this one out,” Cam’ron wrote, referencing Mase’s original rapper moniker “Murda Mase.” He added, “He just got his publishing back from Puff. Just finished the paper work for that yesterday. Congrats @rsvpmase.”
