Young Thug Addresses Rumors About His Sexual Orientation

“I’m the first rapper that they kind of like came at hard with this.”

Young Thug graced veteran radio show host Big Boy with a rare interview. The trap icon swung by Big Boy’s Neighborhood for an interview on The Real where the two chopped it up about the upcoming release of his collaborative project, Super Slimey 2.

  • The conversation briefly touched on his fallout with Young Money honcho Lil Wayne over Carter V and the trapateer’s long-standing beef with Rich Homie Quan before it veered toward the rumors regarding Thugger’s sexuality.

While Thugger’s identity, or anyone else’s, for that matter, is nobody’s business except theirs, the trap icon’s gender-fluid fashion choices have resulted in some people spewing homophobia online toward him.

  • Famously, Thug sent shockwaves throughout the hip-hop community...

...when he donned a blue dress on the cover of his 2016 Jeffrey mixtape. Despite the bigotry, Thugger hasn’t let his detractors stop him from living his life unapologetically.

Speaking with Big Boy on Wednesday (Aug. 21), Thugger addressed the speculation directly.

“People judge me and say ‘gay.’ If people think that I’m gay, they’ve already misjudged,” the 28-year-old ATLien breezily replied. “I’m the straightest man in the world.”

  • While he had Thugger in the hot seat, Big Boy had the Atlanta native re-hash his recent comments pertaining to Lil Nas X. During an interview with No Jumper in July, the So Much Fun rapper said that he wished Lil Nas had not publicly come out to the world at large.

The trap music wunderkind reiterated his stance on Big Boy’s radio show, elaborating that hip-hop can be hostile against the LGBTQ members in its ranks.

“I got stylists around me. I got gay people around me that’s always around me. I don’t judge,” Thugger began before delving into the blow back Lil Nas will inevitably face. “He’s a kid, so I don’t know if he gon’ be able to take what comes. I’m the first rapper that they kind of like came at hard with this. They came at Michael Jackson and Prince, [too]. But, I’m talking hip-hop. I know how strong I had to be.”

  • “You know how many times I wanted to spaz?” Thug asked.

“I don’t know if he gon’ be able to do it. He’s still a teenager. That’s the only thing, I was like, I don't know if he should’ve did it,” he elaborated.

  • The trap wunderkind capped off his comments by saying that he found it “kind of cool” Lil Nas is proudly living in his truth as an openly queer hip-hop artist. Thug signed off saying that he feels Lil Nas will be ultimately fine and looked at the bright side of things.

“But me just seeing how everything is and how he’s taking...he don’t give a f**k. He always said he looked up to me too so I know he don’t care. It’s like, ‘Oh, whatever,’” Thugger said, before pointing out the silver lining of the situation. “It’s kind of cool he did it. It kept his song number one.”
