Victoria Monét Pays Homage to the South with New Visuals for ‘On My Mama’
Victoria Monét is paying homage to the early 2000s with the new visual for her single “On My Mama.”
Decked out in vintage Girbaud jeans and oversized white tees, the 34-year-old Grammy-nominated songwriter delivers high-energy choreography reminiscent of R&B legends Ciara and Mya.
The music video, directed by Child and choreographed by the renowned Sean Bankhead, also pays tribute to meme culture and HBCU culture. These nods include glimpses of members of the Divine Nine Black sororities and fraternities.
Cameos in the video include appearances from Monét’s daughter Hazel and her mother, L'Tanya Chestang-Cubit, aka “Mommy Monét.” Rapper Chalie Boy, whose 2009 hit “I Look Good” is sampled in the song’s hook, is also featured in the video.
Fans flooded the comments section of Monét’s page, praising the new project.
One Instagram user wrote, “MISS MAAM!!!!! This video is EVERYTHING!!! Bodiedddddd. Every look, choreo, style omggaaa.” Another person added, “It’s honestly just too good! I felt like I time traveled back to ATL early 2000s…somebody give me a white TEE !”
“On My Mama” is featured on the singer’s highly anticipated upcoming project “Jaguar II,” which is set to release on August 25. “Jaguar II” is the follow-up to her 2020 project “Jaguar.”
