Kim Kardashian Crowned GQ Man of The Year, Reflects On Late Father's Words

She said her late Dad, Robert Kardashian, encouraged her to "make decisions differently" before his death in 2003.

Kim Kardashian just added a new title to her repertoire.

On Tuesday (Nov. 14), GQ named the SKIM's co-founder the 2023 Man of the Year. In an interview for the publication's iconic cover story, the tycoon reflected on the impact her late father, Robert Kardashian, has had on her life and how she is navigating motherhood.

Kim still remembers some of her dad's last words to her before he died 20 years ago.

“I know you’re going to be okay,” he told her. “It’s almost like I can see ahead. I know you’re going to be okay, but just take care of your siblings for me. Just make sure you take care of them.”

That moment changed the trajectory of her life.

“I took what he said to mean that I was going to be okay in life,” she said. “But it made me make decisions differently.”

Since then, she has led a booming shapewear brand that recently expanded into a men's line and the sports world.

Last month, the TV star began a multiyear partnership with her SKIMS brand and the NBA, WNBA, and USA Basketball.

Along with being a businesswoman, she is also a mom to four children whom she shares with ex-husband Kanye West: North, 10,  Saint, 7, Chicago, 5, and Psalm, 4.

However, she strives to raise them to be "normal."

“I try to have my kids be as normal as possible and live in a neighborhood where they can ride bikes to their cousins’ houses,” she told the outlet. “I understand that it is not a normal life. We’re never going to have a normal family life no matter what. As a parent, I want to protect them as much as I can.”

It also appears that her eldest, North, is following in her shrewd footsteps.

"She gets a huge pitcher and fills it, puts it in her wagon, and goes down to the corner,” Kim explained. “She has a table and chairs and fans to keep herself cool. She makes signs. She stays there hours and hours. Her friends help, so she splits the money with them."

She also described how North turns on the lightbulb, becoming tactical with certain customers.

"If a random person stops, she will charge them only $2. If she knows you, she will fully scam you. I’ll get calls from my friends saying she charged them $20 for a lemonade. She’ll grab their $20 and say, ‘I don’t have any change.’”
