LaLa Anthony Talks Her New Book, Failure and Passion on The Breakfast Club
La La Anthony has gone from television personality to first time best-selling author, and now she is making the promotional rounds for her new book, The Power Playbook: Rules for Independence, Money, and Success. La La hit up Power 105's The Breakfast Club, where she dished on her failures in the industry, her addiction to "cheap chocolate" and saying goodbye to reality TV.
"I don't think it's one blueprint that anyone could follow, but I think everyone has to figure out what their path is," she said about the motivational book. "We all have the power to be great, but most of us just don't know it and don't know how to access it."
Though the star and her baller hubby now rub shoulders with fellow power couples Kim Kardashian and Kanye West and Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade — they turned up together at La La and Carmelo's crib on fight night — she doesn't consider their status a form of power. "I think power is finding something you love and going after it," she said. "I don't think money or status is power."
Another vulnerable topic the former MTV veejay touches on in her book is her failures. She even detailed her slowly rising career as an actress as one, explaining to Charlamagne Tha God, DJ Envy and Angela Yee that she was not a natural at the craft.
"In the acting world, I fail a lot because I go on auditions and I don't get the job... For a lot of people, acting comes natural. For me, I had to learn acting," she said. "I went up for Barbershop 3 and I really wanted that one... so when I didn't get that one, [I was] disappointed."
Her failures even go beyond her professional career, with junk food being her ultimate kryptonite. "I'm a chocolate fanatic and I like cheap chocolate," she said. "I like Kit Kat and Nestle Crunch... I fell off the bandwagon a little bit now, so I'm starting a new program to try to get on."
Lastly, it looks like we won't be seeing La La on our TV screens anymore — at least not as a reality star. She's officially thrown in the towel with that, focusing more on producing and acting. "I'm not doing the reality show anymore but I'm producing now," she said. "Reality TV's not for me anymore... The reality show was hurting me in acting. They look at you like, 'That's the reality girl.'"
