The Internet Can't Stop Wailing About Lil Wayne's Mother Crying Her Heart Out On 'Tha Carter V'
After four long years, a Cash Money-Young Money cold war and strings of broken promises, Lil Wayne’s dangerously-anticipated The Carter V finally arrived in Friday’s (September 28) midnight hour.
The 23-track album is already banking up raving reviews from music critics and the internet alike in under 12 hours since its release. Among the rhapsodizing praise for the Tha Carter V’s pure rap G.O.A.T. quality, fans are also taking their hats off to Weezy’s feature picks, including R&B songstresses Nivea and Ashanti, his daughter Reginae Carter, West Coast hip-hop OG Snoop Dogg, and even Miami’s fallen rap wunderkind, XXXTentacion. However, none are quite as moving as that of Weezy’s mother, Jacida Carter, who not only graces Tha Carter V’s cover art, but opens the album with the tearful intro, “I Love Dwayne.”

Known to his fans as the New Orleans-bred global rap icon and greatest rapper alive, but to Ms. Jacida, Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.: her rock.
“Lil Wayne, mama proud of you,” she begins before breaking down in tears. “You done came so far. I can’t wait for your album to come out. A lot of people asking me when it’s coming out. They can’t wait for your album to come out. I’m just proud of you. You’s my rock. You’ve always been my rock. Mama love you.”
The motherly sentiments from Ms. Jacida prepares listeners for a gripping commencement into the rest of the 22 records. Tha Carter V’s penultimate track, “Used 2,” accomplishes the same in the album’s finale with more heartrending words from Mama Tunechi. This time, she discusses her son’s self-inflicted gunshot to the chest incident when he was 12-years-old, which fans recently learned was actually a suicide attempt.
“I still don’t know today,” she says on the track’s outro. “Was he playing with the gun or was it an accident. I still…I just don’t…I be wanting to ask him, but I never asked him after all these years. Was that a accident or did he…or was he playing with the gun.”
Ms. Jacida’s tender dialogue peppered throughout the project invites fans into the most personal, vulnerable side of Weezy they’ve ever heard. But after exploring this never-before-felt vulnerability from Young Tune, they’re taking it pretty hard.
