Texas Southern Band Member Punches Fan During Football Game, School Investigating
A Texas Southern University Ocean of Soul band member was reportedly caught on camera punching a fan during TSU's matchup against Jackson State University on Saturday, local Houston station KHOU reports.
The video (which has no sound) was posted on X, (formerly Twitter), showing one of the TSU band members playing in the stands, and a male fan standing in the aisle on a lower step yelling at a tuba player with a beverage in his left hand.
The tubist kept playing but suddenly he punched the man three times in the face and once in the chest. After being struck, the man fell down the steps, and the tubistcontinued to play his instrument.
The names of the man and the tuba player have not been released.

Following the incident, SWAC officials issued a statement condemning the behavior of everyone involved in the altercation
“The Southwestern Athletic Conference is aware of the incident involving a Texas Southern University band member that occurred during Saturday’s football contest against Jackson State University,” the statement read. “ The Conference Office is currently working with TSU officials to gather additional information and details regarding the incident.”
On Sunday (Nov. 5), TSU also released a statement regarding the incident noting that an investigation has been launched.
"Texas Southern University is aware of an incident involving a member of the Ocean of Soul marching band during a recent away game,” the statement read. “The incident is under investigation. The University is implementing additional measures to ensure the safety of all band members during performances. "
After the melee in the stands, Jackson State defeated Texas Southern by a score of 21-19.
