Following Impromptu ‘Commitment Ceremony’ Halle Berry’s Boyfriend Van Hunt Plays Stepdad To Her Son Maceo Martinez
To open 2022, Halle Berry nearly broke the internet when she teased that she was engaged to her boyfriend Van Hunt.
“Well… IT’S OFFICIAL,” the 55-year-old actress captioned an Instagram post of her kissing Hunt, seeming to suggest the two tied the knot to ring in the new year. But in the second picture, she wrote “It’s 2022!” over a close-up selfie of the pair of smiling lovers.
But later in January, Berry revealed she had a “commitment ceremony” with her partner, which was led by her 8-year-old son Maceo Martinez. Speaking with AARP Magazine late last month, she said the event was a very emotional one.
"My son, Maceo, of his own volition did this little commitment ceremony for us in the back seat of the car. I think he finally sees me happy, and it's infectious," Berry told the publication. “It was his way of saying, 'This is good. I like this. This makes me happy.'"
She added: "It was a very real moment for all of us. I teared up, Van was fighting back tears. Even Maceo knew he'd said something poignant. It meant a lot to us."
Continuing their relatively new family structure over the weekend, Berry, Hunt and Maceo stepped out for a rare family outing. In pictures captured of the trio leaving Wylie’s Bait & Tackle in Malibu, California, Berry was seen holding her boy’s hand as Hunt walked closely behind, playing the role of a stepfather figure. All were dressed relatively casually.
This is also the first time the paparazzi has captured the new family unit since the commitment ceremony last month.
Berry shares Maceo with ex-husband and French actor Olivier Martinez, and 13-year-old daughter Nahla Ariela Aubry with Canadian model Gabriel Aubry.
