LeBron James Reacts To Becoming Oldest NBA Player
Among all the accolades that LeBron James has received in his storied career, being the oldest player in the NBA is now his latest honor.
At 38 years old, the future Hall of Famer is entering his 21st season in the league and his sixth with the Los Angeles Lakers. Defying every law imaginable, James seems to be able to play at an elite level as he’s looking to turn 39 on December 30.
When James is told that he is officially the oldest player in the league during a practice session, he gives a hilarious reaction by screaming and running away from the camera to the opposite court where he flies through the air for one of his signature dunks.
While Vince Carter managed to score seven points a game in his 21st season, James has championship aspirations for his team, and he remains one the top players in the league as an elder statesman. Last season, he averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and led the Lakers to the Western Conference finals despite dealing with nagging injuries. But when he spoke to reporters after the Lakers were defeated by eventual champions Denver Nuggets, he hinted at retirement.
At the Lakers media day on Monday (October 2), when asked if he’s still considering retirement, James explained that he still loves the game and is not ready to hand up his sneakers just yet.
“I feel like I got a lot more in the tank to give,” James said.
He also gave an update on the status of his son Bronny, who suffered a cardiac arrest at a basketball practice at USC in July. After a successful surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., James said he’s dedicating the upcoming season to Bronny.
“He has (begun) his rehab process to get back on the floor this season with his teammates and USC,” James said. “And it was a successful surgery that he had, but he’s on the up and up. It’s definitely a whirlwind and a lot of emotions for our family this summer. But the best thing we have is each other. And we stuck behind each other and gave Bronny strength throughout the whole process and we’re happy to see where he is today and we look forward to seeing what his future still has in store for him.”
