U.S. Navy Lt. Robert O. Goodman captured in Syria after troops shoot down his plane.
U.S. Navy Lt. Robert Goodman was taken prisoner by the Syrian government after his plane was shot down over Damascus, Syria. The Rev. Jesse Jackson negotiated Goodman's release, and one month later, on January 4, 1984, Goodman returned home to the United States.
