Ice Cube Is Making His Opinion Known On AI Music Creators And It Isn’t Positive
Ice Cube has always been known to speak his mind in an unfiltered manner since breaking into hip-hop with N.W.A. during the 1980s. And that’s not changing almost four decades later.
On Friday (May 19), the legendary rapper and entrepreneur spoke with the Full Send podcast and provided his stance on AI music and its creators. Spoiler: he’s not a fan.
“I don’t wanna hear an AI Drake song,” Cube said when asked if he’d heard the Toronto rapper and The Weeknd’s viral AI-generated track “Heart on My Sleeve.”

When the host noted that the song is a very popular one online at the moment, Cube doubled down.
“Yeah, I don’t wanna hear that b******t,” he dryly replied. “He should sue whoever made it.”
“AI’s coming for you too, bro,” the host replied.
“Yeah,” Cube replied. “And I’mma sue the m********a who made it and the people and the platform who play it. It’s like a sample, you know what I mean? Somebody can’t take your original voice and manipulate it without having to pay.”
This is just the latest instance of AI being used to repurpose voices for some of the biggest names in hip-hop. Frank Ocean, The Notorious B.I.G., and others have all had their likeness repurposed in some way over the past few months. For more about AI’s foray into music, read more here.
