D'Angelo Hospitalized, Cancels Shows
D'Angelo has been hospitalized for an undisclosed "medical emergency" and has canceled upcoming performances, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Wednesday's (Aug. 7) show at the Chicago House of Blues has been scrapped, adding to a tally of shut down dates in Minneapolis, New York, Baltimore and San Diego.
An agent for the "Brown Sugar" singer failed to give specific details, revealing only that the situation is "serious," but not critical. "He should be OK," the agent told a House of Blues rep.
Additionally, concert promoter Live Nation released a statement expressing D'Angelo's "sincere regret" for missing the appearances "due to this unfortunate circumstance."
Although absent from the performance circuit for several years, the Grammy winner has been slowly making his way back into the live music scene. According to the Roots drummer, Questlove, fans can expect a new D'Angelo album sometime this year.
As of now, the Virginia native is still scheduled to hit San Francisco's Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival this Friday (Aug. 9).
