Simone Biles Addresses Her 2020 Olympic Departure in Trailer for New Netflix Doc
Netflix has just unveiled the highly anticipated emotional new trailer for the upcoming two-part documentary series about gymnast Simone Biles.
The Simone Biles Rising series will delve into the 27-year-old’s pivotal choice to step back from competing in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, her inspiring mental health journey, and her resilient comeback in preparation for the upcoming Olympic games in Paris this summer.
"We are all the authors of our own journeys, and I am in a place in my life where I’m comfortable with who I am and what I’ve been through as an athlete, but most of all, as a person," Biles said in a statement shared by Netflix. "Gymnastics is what I do but it's not who I am, and I'm excited for people to see another side of me outside of competition."
"I know there are young girls out there who look to me for inspiration and are faced with similar challenges, and my hope is that this documentary helps to empower them to be true to who they are and never give up on their dreams," she added.
Biles recently clinched the top prize at the 2024 U.S. Gymnastics Championships, dominating all individual events. The Paris Olympics begin on July 26.
Simone Biles Rising premieres on Netflix on July 17 with four 45-minute episodes.
