Happily Ever After! Naturi Naughton And Husband Two Lewis Talk Fun-Filled Reception, And How He Included Her Daughter Zuri In His Beautiful Proposal Plans
Spring is a perfect time for weddings and Hollywood was able to celebrate a new union as Power star Naturi Naughton tied the knot last weekend (April 2nd) with her husband and business partner Two Lewis.
Their wedding colors were spring lavender and blush mixed with cream and eggplant with the theme being Infinity and Beyond.
The couple’s wedding planner, Eliana Baucicault of ellyB Events, pulled out all the stops to give the newlyweds the wedding of their dreams.
Women aren’t the only ones with dating rules as Naturi’s husband, Two, walks down memory lane and tells BET that in order for him to date Naturi, they needed to get to know each other for one year …and looking at the result, it worked out for the long haul.
“I had a one-year rule when we met where I wouldn't date anybody I didn't know for at least a year,” he shared with us.
“Before this, I, I mean, I've been single for a while because nobody ever made it a full year without trying to force me to be in a relationship with things like that. And Naturi just let us grow as friends. She went to church with me, prayed with me and we just had a really great time. When we got to that year, instead of just making an emotional decision to be with each other, because I had already loved her, we wanted to make a logical decision to say, Hey, do we fit in each other lives? Can we support each other? Can we be best friends?”
And surely, the answer was yes.
The entrepreneur continued telling us how his elaborate proposal plans had to shift due to the pandemic, but that didn’t stop him from coming up with a creative way to ask for the singer’s hand in marriage.
“I actually had planned to take her to Disney World because she’s a queen to me,” he began.
“I wanted to make sure she felt like that. And I, I was gonna do the whole, uh, parade and, and proposed then, but COVID happened. So I had to figure something out. I'm gonna bring Disney to New York. So I got all the characters to come. It felt like a Christmas photoshoot. And they started playing Mul-Ty’s ‘Looking For Love’ and that’s when I asked her to marry me and do life with me.”
Naughton wasn’t the only one to receive a ring. Lewis also gave a promise ring to her daughter, Zuri, to let her know his commitment to her mother.
The actress shared she didn’t ugly cry, but was “in shock” and “emotional” as she realized she met someone she could trust with her heart and safe that he not only loved her but her child as well.
While the former girl group member found her husband in real life, it was her TV husband Omari Hardwick that led her to her true love.
The actor encouraged the Queens star to give Lewis a chance and because of their strong brother/sister relationship dynamic, she tells BET that now she thanks Omari for “knowing their connection was real.”
Lewis chimed in and called the For Colored Girls actor an executive producer because he’s “good at putting things together” and knew putting them in a room would be “magical.”
The newlyweds are not only bound in marriage, but they also are business partners as they are co-founders of CreditRich, a fintech company that allows users to round up their spare change to pay their bills intelligently and improve their credit scores as quickly as possible — ultimately becoming the first Black-owned company to partner with a credit bureau in Experian.
“Our new venture is to help millennials build and we work together not only to pour into ourselves but pour into our communities,” said Lewis.
“Whatever we do together, it's usually a venture that we feel elevates Black and brown people which is important to us”
Now, the wedding looked like a fairytale out of a Cinderella book.
Naughton tells BET they wanted to give “Black excellence” and “class,” intentionally partnering up with Black-owned designers.
She highlights Papered Wonders, owned by Lisa Zachary, who put together their invitations, the program, and the hologram menu which is two-sided, showing different photos of the couple.
The wedding was very futuristic and Blackity Black to say the least,
A test of trust was met when things almost went awry as the couple experienced technical difficulties with the microphones in preparation for their big day, with Lewis reassuring his wife-to-be at the time to allow him to handle the miscommunications and count on him to make sure things run smoothly.
“She had a little moment about the microphones and I looked at her, asking if she trusts me?” he explained which made their bond even stronger.
One thing that did not have a malfunction was the dress by Berta Bridal, although the Notorious actress shares how the dress almost didn’t arrive.
“The dress was designed by Berta Bridal,” she tells us.
“I went with my mom, my bridal stylist Selena, and best friends and they helped me decide on the dress I wore as I love sparkles. I wanted an expensive Regal look. There was a debacle as the dress didn’t come on time but it worked out. I also had a second dress from a Spanish designer named Inmaculada Garcia who gifted me the dress.”
She also gets into the glam, shouting out her longtime makeup artist Ashley Stewart and hairstylist Tiffany Mack.
She tells BET that she received tons of offers from makeup stylists but wanted to make sure the person to make her fabulous on her special day was someone that supported their relationship like Ashley.
“ I knew she would gimme that gorgeous, you know, glow that I wanted,” Naughton explains.
“I love a golden glow, especially mixed with my brown skin. We wanted it to be very clean. I did a wing eye, like a nice, and pops of like, purple in my liner since our colors were purple, but I didn't want it to feel like a red carpet moment or an overdramatized makeup. I just wanted to look like myself and a lot of makeup artists sometimes wanna do so much and put diamonds on and then I'm gonna do this.”
She also shares how intentional she was with her lipstick choice as she didn’t want to leave any marks on her man on their special day.
“I wanted to be able to kiss him and not have a crazy lipstick,” she tells BET.
“We did a very soft pink nude which was a matte lip so that it didn't get on him and she used waterproof because she knew I was gonna be crying, which I did. Ee did a beautiful bun with this gorgeous headpiece that Tiffany Mack styled my hair with these Tundras in the front and Vainglorious Brides to provide the headpiece. It was, it was stunning."
Now the fun begins.
When asked about the bachelorette party, the 3LW alum tells BET there were “a lot of drinks” and actress Teyonah Parris “kept the party going.”
“So I had a traditional bridal shower at my matron of honor’s spot called Sweet 66 in Brooklyn as I try to support Black-owned businesses,” she began.
“But the bachelorette party was more of a turnup in a hotel. We went out to Atlanta and Angela Yee said we have to turn up. Teyonah Parris kept the party going and she has all the footage we can’t show (laughs). I had to recover the next day.”
Of course, BET dug a little deeper into Lala Anthony catching the bouquet at the wedding, which Naughton shared felt like “it was meant for her.”
“I didn't even know who was standing there as I tried to throw the bouquet straight, but when I threw the bouquet, it kind of looked like it was a curveball,” she began.
“It was like it was meant for her. She was like, how did you throw it right to me? How did that happen? And she was so happy. Obviously, she said to me before the wedding, she was like, you know, I'm out here. I'm single. I had some single people there. I was just happy to see her happy at the end of the day. I know what she's been through. We spent years doing Power together and were still friends. I’m looking forward to her hopefully finding new love in her life.”
Let’s get into this reception.
The couple explained the production of a reception they had with ‘Ciara’s Prayer’ by Ciara and Summer Walker playing as they entered the reception venue then turned up the head with Nardo Wick’s record ‘Me Or Sum’ then transitioned into some Afrobeats.
Clearly, a playlist that would appease everyone who attended.
Lewis shared with BET the record for their first dance was India.Arie’s ‘Ready To Love’ and even performed a choreographed Waltz dance which was taught to them by Jennifer Mason.
Lewis also shared a dance with Zuri to the song ‘Beauty and the Beast.’
When asked about expanding, the Hairspray star shared they are definitely looking to add a few more kiddies to the mix.
“Zuri tells me how she wants a little sister and I tell her you to know how much work that takes?” she laughed.
“We want to expand but we’re taking our time. We want to enjoy being married and give Zuri our attention since she’s only four years old.”
Of course, we had to get the inside scoop on her hit show, Queens, in which the actress says although there isn’t an official announcement on a second season at this time, she’s crossing her fingers and is happy to see four Black women lead a show on the ABC Network.
“Hopefully ABC sees the value in what we were starting. Obviously, we're still growing our fan base. I think we're gonna know very soon though. Like I'll just say that we might have to do a follow-up to discuss what's going on Queens, but happy the audience seems to love Queens.”
And she hints at dropping some new music sometime this year.
The musician tells BET she’s been working with music producer Troy Taylor, known for working with artists like Trey Songz, Tamar Braxton, K. Michelle, Keyshia Cole, Tank, and many others.
She continues by letting us know how she would also like to get into the studio with Sean Garrett after seeing his production on Summer Walker’s sophomore album ‘Still Over It.’
The couple is heading to Tulum to celebrate their honeymoon.
