It's 1966 and the American cultural landscape was drastically different. Integrated schools were still a new concept and racism in sports was very much rampant. Despite these trying times the Texas Western College in El Paso has a new coach, Don Haskins (Josh Lucas), who is willing to do whatever it takes to win, and soon assembles a talented integrated basketball team. The team finds itself playing against elite teams, but must still face overt discrimination no matter where they go. Can they withstand the constant social barriers or will it cause their glory to fade?
