Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Adopt A Rescued Senior Beagle
The Royal Family is expanding and adding a new member to their empire.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry adopted a senior beagle named Momma Mia, who was rescued from a Virginia breeding facility owned by Envigo RMS last month, according to People.
Animal rights attorney Shannon Keith, who oversees the Beagle Freedom Project, praised the Duke and Dutchess of Sussex to the publication.
"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are the most loving, sensitive, and caring adopters I have ever met!" she told People.
The Duke and Duchess now have a little squad, that includes the beagle and their two children, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.
"We were so honored that they have been supporting Beagle Freedom Project and chose to adopt a dog who has been abused. They made a point to adopt a rescue named Mia, who most would overlook because she is older, has health issues, and is traumatized by her past. I was so impressed by their commitment to animal welfare! They have been following up, telling us how well Momma Mia is doing in her new, amazing home!"
Keith recalls how the adoption took place, with a call that confused her on which famous Meghan she may have been speaking with.
"She calls on my cell with no Caller ID and says, 'Hey Shannon, this is Meghan,' " Keith told the LA Times.
"We talked for 30 minutes, and I thought, 'Is this Megan Fox?' The Duchess held Mia and was like, ‘We’re adopting her. She was like, ‘No, we don’t want a Christmas puppy. … We want ones we can help who are older.’”
