Top Moments From The Hip Hop Awards & Find Out What Makes Nelly’s (Music) World Go Around

This year’s recipient of the “I Am Hip Hop” award at the 2021 BET Hip Hop Awards was none other than Nelly. 

There’s no one more deserving of their flowers than the St. Louis native, whose influence, leadership and memories over his twenty-year career help shape a generation.

In a virtual one-on-one with the St. Louis rap icon, we picked the Apple Bottom Jeans founder’s brain about the types of music he listens to when he’s doing everyday activities in a game called “What Makes Nelly’s World Go Around”.

We ask, for example, what he’d play while stuck in L.A. traffic, to which he responded: 

“To me, the greatest rap album of all time: The Chronic," he said.

As usual, the BET Hip Hop Awards were filled with some memorable moments and performances. Let's take a look at a few below.

    Undoubtely one of the most gripping performances of the night was Tobe Nwigwe bringing out Fat and Nel to body the performance of their song "Fye Fye".

    Taking up the entire stage, the rap group brought energy you could feel though the screen.

    Nick Cannon stepped out dramaitc fashion for the 2021 BET Hip Hop Awards.

    Drapped in premature holiday-ready garb, the "Masked Singer" sported metallic gold embossed vest with red and white-striped silk shorts. Not to mention his white fur coat, diamond pendant necklace, belt and red glasses lined in crystals.

  5. Tyler Gives Props To The Old School

    Tyler, the Creator, who was the recepeint of the first-ever Rock The Bells Cultural Influence Award, stole the show with his speech, where he thanked Q-TipMissy ElliotPharrell and others. 

    “This thing that’s a hobby or a pastime or a passion for us – a lot of people in here it kept us out of trouble and it allowed us to change our family lives, our friend lives, or our lives,” Tyler said during his speech. “It’s like a pathway for a lot of us to really just go.”

  6. DC Young Fly Goes Soulja Boy

    DC Young FlyKarlous Miller and Chico Bean aka 85 South opened up the BET Hip Hop Awards in a memorable way, paying homage to rap stars like Pimp C and Soulja Boy.

    You just have to love how commited DC was to the assignment.
