Beyoncé Covers Time 100 Issue
Beyoncé has been named one of the 100 most influential people in the world according to Time magazine's 11th annual list and graces one of the issue's covers. The list spotlights quite a mix of important figures, such as Pharrell Williams, Serena Williams, Pope Francis, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Miley Cyrus, Hillary Clinton and Amazon founder and new Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos.
Each inspiring (and sometimes controversial) honoree is profiled in a piece written by other notable names. Bey's was written by Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook's chief operating officer. She and Beyoncé joined forces last month to ban the word "bossy" when addressing young girls and encourage them to become leaders.
"She's the boss," Sandberg writes about the pop star in her Time profile. "Beyoncé doesn't just sit at the table. She builds a better one. Today she sits at the head of the boardroom table at Parkwood Entertainment. Beyoncé has sold out the Mrs. Carter Show World Tour while being a full-time mother."
"Her secret," Sandberg continues, is "hard work, honesty and authenticity. And her answer to the question, 'What would you do if you weren't afraid?' appears to be 'Watch me. I'm about to do it.'" Then she adds, "You can, too."
Robert Redford, Jason Collins, the NBA's first openly gay athlete, and General Motors CEO Mary Barra also have their own covers for the Time 100 issue. Read their profiles when the Time 100 issue hits newsstands Friday, April 25.
