Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars, better known as the soul, funk, and r&b Silk Sonic, took home the “Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration (Traditional)” award at the 2023 NAACP Image Awards for their single “Love Train.” The duo has continued to show success since announcing the partnership on February 26, 2021. In honor of their well-deserved win during this year’s celebration of Black Hollywood, all hosted by the outstanding actress and emcee Queen Latifah, here are three things you probably didn’t know about the sultry duo Silk Sonic.
A funk icon gave them their name
A press release listed that the duo was named Silk Sonic by legendary bassist and funk icon Bootsy Collins after listening to their debut album, An Evening With Silk Sonic. Bootsy is also featured in the intro of the project.
They swept the first-ever Grammy Awards
In 2022 Silk Sonic was nominated and won four Grammy Awards for their single “Leave the Door Open” in categories including “Record of the Year,” “Song of the Year,” “Best R&B Performance,” and “Bet R&B Song.”
They have over a dozen Grammy wins combined
Bruno made his musical breakthrough in 2010 thanks to the success of "Nothin' on You" by B.o.B and "Billionaire" by Travie McCoy, both of which featured his vocals. He has since earned 31 Grammys nominations, winning ten. Anderson is relatively new but has already garnered much success, including 13 Grammy noms and eight wins.
