Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Andre Berto Is Looking Like a Box Office Fail
Boxing fans aren't acting like Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s final fight is the must-see event it should be.
As of Tuesday, ESPN reported that Ticketmaster still has upwards of 2,100 seats available at the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas for Mayweather's bout against Andre Berto on Saturday night.
Whether it's the fact that Berto has lost three of his past six bouts entering this fight or that boxing fans just don't believe that this will be Mayweather's final showdown, this match just isn't drawing interest like we've seen Money's bouts do in the past.
Face value tickets for this fight are going for $125 to $1,500 — far lower than prices that the Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao bout carried in May.
Tickets for that fight cost an average of $5,000, compared to this Mayweather-Berto average ticket price of $800, more than six times less.
It's gotten so desperate that MGM hotels are reportedly offering friendlier hotel-stay and fight-ticket combination deals to spark revenue around the fight.
With just under four days remaining until the fight, can anything be done at this point to spark some last-minute interest?
