After spending 14 years behind bars, former Bad Boy rapper G. Dep was released from prison on  Thursday (April 4) and is now a free man, TMZ reports.

In December, New York Governor Kathy Hochul granted Dep, 49 (real name Trevell Coleman) clemency and his sentence was commuted, making him eligible for parole. 

According to the report, Dep was released under the prison's Limited Credit Time Allowance program, which gives eligible inmates a six-month credit on their current sentence time.

On his Instagram, G-Dep is seen leaving the prison where he was greeted by family and friends. In another post, he is seen enjoying his freedom by taking in a meal at a local IHOP.

In 1993,  John Henke was fatally shot during a robbery in East Harlem when G.Dep was a teenager. Since the tragic incident, G.Dep said he has been “haunted” by the event. Law enforcement was not able to solve the murder, where Henkel was shot three times in the chest outside an apartment complex.

Almost 20 years later, G. Dep decided to confess to the crime. During the fatal altercation, Henkel was shot three times in the chest outside an apartment complex.

Following the trial, Coleman was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison in 2012.

Signing with Bad Boy in 2001, he released his debut album, Child of the Ghetto, which featured his two signature songs, “Let’s Get It” featuring Diddy and Black Rob, and “Special Delivery” featuring Diddy, which helped to popularize the Harlem Shake dance. His second album, Ghetto Legend, was released in 2010.

While in prison, Dep earned an associate's degree.
