Shooting at Tennessee State University Leaves One Dead
A dice game dispute led to a fatal shooting at Tennessee State University on Thursday night, leaving one student dead and two others who were passersby injured. The names of the victims have not been released yet. Police are investigating and looking for the suspect in the shooting.
The HBCU located in Nashville, Tennessee, is the latest American campus to be stricken with gun violence in a string of incidents across the country this month. Police believe it was an isolated shooting and that other students were not immediate targets.
"There was no known threat to students in dorms or elsewhere on campus," a Nashville Police Department press release read.
The fight escalated into a shooting at an outdoor courtyard, according to the Nashville Police Department. After gunshots rang out, a call was made to campus police around 10:52 p.m.
One 18-year-old female student has been treated for injuries and released from a nearby medical center. The other student is currently being treated and is expected to recover. A third was grazed but did not need to be transported to a hospital.
