This Week In Good Black News: Tamika Scott Rises Above The Drama, Alicia Keys Visits ‘Bridgerton’ And The Reign Of Angel Reese Continues

Plus, some powerful leaders in the GOP are being held accountable.

From athletes to musicians, some of our favorite stars made the headlines this week. We also saw some Republicans held accountable and history being made in the Biden-Harris administration. In case you missed it, here is This Week in Good Black News.

  1. Donald Trump Held Accountable

    On May 9, for the first time ever, it appears Donald Trump, 76, is being held accountable. A New York federal jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation, the New York Times reports. It was a huge win for magazine writer E. Jean Carroll, 79, who accused Trump of sexually abusing her in the 1990s. A jury has ordered Trump to pay her $5 million. Carroll told CNN, “This verdict is for all women.” Trump’s reaction? He accused her of being racist. The twice impeached former president is the leading Republican nominee for president.

  2. Sen. George Santos Indicted!

    In more news about Republicans being held accountable news, iconic liar and former drag queen George Santos, has been charged with seven counts of wire fraud, three counts of money laundering, one count of theft of public funds, and two counts of making materially false statements to the House of Representatives. The New York representative has pleaded guilty and refuses to resign. If convicted, he faces 20 years in prison, the AP reports.

  3. Biden-Harris Administration Makes History

    The Biden-Harris administration officially has the lowest Black unemployment rate in recorded history. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the unemployment rate for African Americans dropped to 4.7 percent in April. It is also the first time in history that the Black unemployment rate has been this close to that of the White rate. which is 3.2 percent—only a 1.5 percent difference. Historically, the Black unemployment rate has been twice the White unemployment rate since 1972, when employment data was recorded by race, according to the Center for American Progress.

  5. Kierra Sheard-Kelly Drops A New Book

    This week, Kierra Sheard-Kelly released The Vibes You Feel, which is a book for teens and young women who want to better explore faith and spirituality. The book's release comes just months after Kierra's seventh studio album, All Yours

    The Vibes You Feel is the 35-year-old's second book. Her first book, Big, Bold, and Beautiful: Owning the Woman God Made You to Be, was released in 2021.

  6. Rich Paul Expands His Sports Agency

    Rich Paul, sports agent and Adele’s boyfriend, has acquired Elite Athlete Management via his company, Klutch Sports. Paul’s company already represents NFL stars like Jalen Hurts but with Elite, 40 NFL players, including Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. will now be on his roster, The Shadow League reports.

  7. Alicia Keys Visits 'Bridgerton'

    Shonda Rhimes’ Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is the latest obsession on Netflix. Now, Alicia Keys has added her voice. Keys has remade her 2003 classic “If I Ain't Got You" with the Queen Charlotte's Global Orchestra. The song is on the soundtrack, which includes instrumental covers from Beyonce, SZA, Whitney Houston, and more. See Alicia Keys’ video above.

  9. Angel Reese Is Now A Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model

    The reign of LSU star Angel Reese continues. The 21-year-old is officially a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model. "Things have been super crazy," she told Sports Illustrated. "I'm excited and blessed to be able to have these opportunities to just go out and being able to be who I am." See a video of Bayou Barbie’s photoshoot above.

  10. Lil Mama Will Launch Cosmetics And Jewelry Collection

    Lil Mama is launching a cosmetic and jewelry line. According to Rolling Out, the entrepreneur, whose real name is Niatia Jessica Kirkland, is releasing Vaniteaset Cosmetics, and a collaboration with jewelry company Aporro for her “It’s Poppin” collection. There isn’t an official date for when the collection will be available, but she shared the promo video on her Instagram page, which read “coming soon.” See above.

  11. News Anchor Yamiche Alcindor Is Preggers!

    NBC News Washington Correspondent Yamiche Alcindor, 36, is expecting a baby boy in June with husband Nathaniel Cline. The exciting announcement comes after years of expensive and painful fertility treatments. The veteran journalist wrote in a heartfelt piece for TODAY, "It is the most incredible, exciting, life-affirming thing for me to have a baby on the way, especially because it comes after years of disappointment, ugly crying, and carrying around a deep sense of shame that my body couldn’t do what everyone else’s body seemed to do so easily.” See her baby bump above.

  13. Tamika Scott And Method Man Slay In New Video

    Through all the drama on SWV & Xscape: The Queens of R&B, Tamika Scott is rising above the drama and releasing new music. Her single "Tonight,” featuring Method Man is definitely a bop and includes a sample of Nas’ “One Mic.” See the video above, which dropped six days ago and already has over 237,000 views.
