See Who Nailed The Camp Theme And Won Best Dressed At The 2019 Met Gala
At last, the first Monday of May (May 6), better known as Met Gala Monday, is here and we are left in awe from the amazing pink carpet looks. This year’s theme, "Camp: Notes on Fashion," brought the stars out in rich, ornate, sequin, metallic and feathery over-the-top fashions.
Inspired by an essay written by Susan Sontag titled Notes on "Camp," 58 definitions were penned in 1964 to explain just what Andrew Bolton, the museum's curator in charge of the Costume Institute, has chosen as the most relevant fashion movement of the year.
See a few standout notes below:
5. Camp taste has an affinity for certain arts rather than others. Clothes, furniture, all the elements of visual décor, for instance, make up a large part of Camp.
7. All Camp objects, and persons, contain a large element of artifice. Nothing in nature can be campy . . . Rural Camp is still man-made, and most campy objects are urban.
10. Camp sees everything in quotation marks. It's not a lamp, but a "lamp"; not a woman, but a "woman."
25. The hallmark of Camp is the spirit of extravagance. Camp is a woman walking around in a dress made of three million feathers.
Co-host Serena Williams slayed, as per usual, wearing a neon yellow, custom, Versace gown with Off-White x Nike sneakers to add the perfect sporty touch. While Yara Shahidi channeled a black swan in a silver embroidered mini-dress with a black feather cape by Prada.
OG supermodel Naomi Campbell looked gorgeous in a pink custom Valentino plunging neckline gown. Lena Waithe gave us a very clear history lesson wearing a powder-blue, pinstripe, double breasted suit jacket with a message on the back reading, "Black Drag Queens Invented Camp."
And, of course, J.Lo stunned like the fashion queen she is, sparkling in a silver fringe dress with a matching fringed hat by Versace. Nonetheless, our gals did not let us down. And neither did the rest of the A-list celebrities below.
From gaudy jewelry to extreme hats and head dresses, here are all the celebs who shut down this year’s camp-themed Met Gala:
