The Internet Gave Evelyn King's Classic Single the Viral Treatment, and We're Here for Every Bit of It
Leave it to social media’s habit of digging up ancient material and boosting it into online pandemonium, such as the case was for Shirley Ceaser’s holiday sensational #UNameItChallenge.
This time around, the 'net has used its investigative powers for good, remixing the classic '80s hit song “Love Come Down" by Evelyn “Champagne” King for our dancing pleasure all while creating yet another viral challenge.
The #LoveComeDownChallenge was bolstered by students from HBCUs nationwide and intended, this time, to see how many tracks aspiring and current DJs could spin on the beat in as ear-pleasing a way possible.
According to Spin, the irrepressible energy of King’s hit originally exploded on the Internet in December 2016 when Imani Carrier posted a video to his Twitter dancing to the single’s remix. The Bay Area entertainer accrued numerous views after the video went up. Harlem shaking and popping through the track’s bass line, Carrier performed the impromptu dance craze in a parking lot and the rest was pretty much history.
“When you’re from the Bay but you’re really a NY n**ga at heart,” the video’s caption read. Since sharing it with his Instagram following as well, the video has turned over 68,718 views and inspired the rest of social media to bust their own hilarious moves over the track as well.
