Michael Jackson’s double album HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I was certified seven times platinum on Oct. 22, 1999, by the Recording Industry Association of America.
There were 3.5 million shipments in the United States by this time, but the Association counted each disc of the double album separately.

The late legendary king of pop's ninth studio album was released on July 16, 1995, and was the first album on his label MJJ Productions. HIStory featured the hit songs "Scream," with his sister Janet Jackson, "They Don't Care About Us" and "You Are Not Alone."
