Ugandan Rebels Force 300,000 Congolese to Flee
The Lord's Resistance Army has displaced many in the northeast of the giant central African country, the Republic of Congo.
A U.N. official says that the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), which may have only several hundred soldiers but retains a reputation for brutality greater than its size, has displaced at least 300,000 people in the northeast of the Republic of Congo, in central Africa.
The LRA, whose leader Joseph Kony says he is a prophet sent from God, has fought against the government of Uganda since 1991, and expanded its movement into neighboring countries in recent years. The group has a reputation for using child soldiers and for attacks on civilians. Kony is wanted by the International Criminal Court.
