Herschel Walker Agrees to Debate Sen. Raphael Warnock in Georgia Senate Race
The contentious U.S. Senate race in Georgia between Democratic incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock and GOP contender Herschel Walker will see the pair meet in debate next month. The televised event will take place mere weeks prior to the midterm elections.
The announcement, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, comes after many months of the former NFL player and Heisman Trophy Winner refusing to appear onstage with Warnock, and insinuating that he didn’t need to meet Warnock at all during the campaign.

Despite having the backing of Donald Trump and other powerful GOP members, Walker has proven gaffe-prone on the campaign trail. He was forced to admit to three children more than he had ever spoken publicly about, and once insinuated that climate laws to him were suspect because "They continue to try to fool you that they are helping you out. But they're not. Because a lot of money it's going to trees," Walker told a Georgia Republican Jewish Committee according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Warnock’s campaign repeatedly attempted to persuade Walker to appear. The candidates will debate Oct. 14 in Savannah. It’s unclear if Walker will commit to a second debate that Warnock had long said was non-negotiable.
“Herschel Walker, I’ll see you on the stage in Savannah on October 14th,” Warnock wrote on Twitter. “And I hope you’ll reconsider your refusal to debate in Atlanta and Macon so voters can see more than once the clear choice they have in this election.”
The race is hotly contested, as control of the Senate is at stake. Warnock, who won his election bid in a 2021 runoff, is seeking his first full term in office. Walker has never held elected public office.
