Cardi B Defends Herself Against Critics Who Have A Problem With Her 'Trap Selena' Line

"Who didn't want to be Selena?"

People are trying to come for Cardi B... again. This time it's for her latest hit single, "MotorSport," with Migos and Nicki Minaj. When the track first came out, Bardi Gang seemed to think the newcomer killed her verse, but now critics are taking aim at her comparing herself to the late legend, Selena Quintanilla.

On the track Cardi says that she is the hood version of the Tejano legend. "Let me wrap my weave up / I'm the trap Selena / ¡Dame más gasolina! Skrrt," she spits. People questioned the audacity of Cardi to compare herself to such an influential model within the Latin community, especially since the rapper only recently found acclaim in the industry. But the Grammy-nominated rapper suggested that she was simply paying homage to her idol. "I said Trap Selena because who didn't want to be Selena," Cardi tweeted. "She is a alter ego that everybody would want to be and I want the world to know how much I love her."

Since Cardi's rise to instant stardom, she has often been the target of consistent hate on social media. From how she speaks to pitting her against other women in the game, it seems like some haters don't want her to win. Nevertheless, 2017 was definitely the Year of Cardi. So people may want to get used to the Bronx princess.

Check out her full response and her snippet from the new "MotorSport" music video below.
