Jay-Z Reveals "Oceans" Featuring Frank Ocean
Jay-Z's #newrules campaign continues with a promo for his second Magna Carta Holy Grail "single" (whereas actual singles are typically the promos). Samsung Galaxy users who downloaded his MCHG app got the first look at a video where he drops knowledge on the concept and a portion of the lyrics for "Oceans" featuring Frank Ocean.
"It’s a celebration of where we are now. You know, on some big yacht throwing champagne in the water, but the undertone is this same water is the water that brought us here … originally, as slaves," Hov explained to Swizz Beatz, Pharrell, Timbaland and Rick Rubin.
Indeed, the lyrics reflect that: "I'm anti Santa Maria/ Only Christopher we acknowledge / Is Wallace, I don't even like Washington's in my pocket / Black card go hard when I'm shopping / Boat dock in front of Hermes, picking cotton / Silken fleeces / Lay on my Jesus / Oh my God, I hope y'all don't get sea sick."
Jay also has released the lyrics to "Holy Grail" featuring Justin Timberlake and "Heaven," which pick up lines from well loved rock groups Nirvana and R.E.M. And he introduced the full track listing via a Brooklyn-based scavenger hunt, wherein social-media using fans were able to find binders filled with lyrics sheets (blacked out the way government officials do to maintain confidentiality in documents).
The full album is slated for release on the Independence Day, July 4.
Meanwhile, Frank Ocean's revealed three new songs as well, recorded at a concert in Munich. He told Billboard he's "knee-deep" in a follow-up to his award-winning Channel Orange.
