Hurricane Chris Indicted On Murder Charges In Louisiana
Best known for his 2007 hit, “A Bay Bay,” Hurricane Chris has been indicted in connection to a fatal shooting that took place at a Shreveport gas station four months ago.
The 31-year-old rapper, whose real name is Christopher Jerron Dooley, appeared before a Caddo Parish grand jury last week. According to The Shreveport Times, he was indicated on second-degree murder charges for the June killing of a 32-year-old-man, Danzeria Ferris Jr.
As previously reported, Hurricane Chris was arrested on June 19, following an investigation. Police were called to a Texaco gas station in response to a shooting. Officers arrived at the scene to find Ferris suffering multiple gunshot wounds to the body. He was rushed to a hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries. The rapper reportedly told police officers that he shot Farris because he thought the 32-year-old was trying to steal his car, a 2016 Mercedes Sedan.
However, detectives claim that video footage of the incident shows that he did not act in self-defense. In addition to murder charges, Hurricane Chris is facing charges related to the vehicle. Authorities uncovered that the car in question was reported stolen by its owner in Texas. As such, he is facing charges for illegal possession of the vehicle.
At the time of his arrest, Hurricane Chris' attorney released a statement, which said, “The prayers of Mr. Dooley are with the family of the deceased as well as his own family at this time. He is confident that at the end of a thorough and just investigation of this incident, his name will be cleared.”
He was released on June 21 from jail after he posted a $500,000 bond. XXL reports that his next court date has been set for Jan. 5, 2021.
