BET Awards 2023: Big Latto Wins Best Female Hip Hop Artist At BET Awards
In a category that featured some of the best women on the Hip Hop landscape, the award for Best Female Hip Hop Artist was claimed by Big Latto. Other illustrious nominees included Coi Leray, Cardi B, Glorilla, Ice Spice, Megan Thee Stallion, and Nicki Minaj.
She received the award after thrilling the audience with a performance of her summer banger “Put It On Da Floor" and the capacity crowd was dancing and shouting every single lyric.
Latto gave her speech while wearing just one high heel — with the rapper tossing her other heel after she struggled to buckle it at her seat when was announced as the winner.
“I’m not going to cry this year,” Latto began. “But shout out to God. Shout out to all the other women in the category and the women who paved the way for this to even be possible. This category is going crazy this year.”
Latto continued the long tradition of female empowerment in Hip Hop among women rappers by giving props to several other MCs who she believed were worthy of being nominated for the award.
“Shout out to some of the other women who I think should have been in the category Doechii, I love you baby.Maiya the Don and Flo Milli," Latto said.
“Shout out to the women, we killing it. This is the year of the female, the year of women. Hopefully, we will see an all-female tour very soon,” she added.
To conclude her heartfelt speech, Latto shouted out her mother and her mystery boyfriend
“Momma, I love you. And my man, thank you to my man,” she continued earning cheers from the crowd. “BET, yall always give me my flowers. Thank you, BET!"
In addition to capturing a win in the Best Female Hip Hop Artist category, the “Lottery” rapper is nominated for “Best Collaboration,” for “Big Energy” (Remix) featuring Mariah Carey and DJ Khaled.
