Watch Nate Parker Defend His White Wife: ‘She’s Raising Black Kids'
Nate Parker seems to be losing the battle to win back public opinion.
After facing intense outcry and countless think pieces over his college rape trial, and subsequent clumsy attempt to explain the aftermath, he's back at it by speaking out in defense of his white wife, Sarah DiSanto, after some folks took issue with their interracial relationship.
Speaking at the Merge Summit in Hollywood, Parker was asked to address the controversy. And while it doesn't seem he should have to defend his relationship of 17 years (the couple have five daughters together) simply because his wife is not Black, somehow he made even those who would defend him on this point raise an eyebrow.
“My wife is not African-American,” Parker said. “I met my wife in college when I was 18 or 19. Nineteen? When I was 19. I fell in love with her. We’ve been together off and on since then. We got married nine years ago, August 10.”
Parker continued, saying that while his wife isn’t Black, she's "woke," too:
“She’s the love of my life. She’s not of African descent but she reads the books that I give her. She knows that she’s raising Black kids," he said. "I say that to say that I know I came under criticism for that and not that I have to speak to it. But I want everyone that can hear my voice to know that I love my wife but I love ya’ll, too.”
OK, then.
