Rep. Jim Clyburn Wants Judge Michelle Childs To Be Biden's Supreme Court Pic
Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer’s retirement from the Court has led to speculation about who President Joe Biden will nominate as Breyer’s replacement.
Biden promised his nominee will be a Black woman and South Carolina Rep. Jim Clyburn is clear he prefers Judge J. Michelle Childs.
According to the Associated Press, Clyburn said, “Judge (Michelle) Childs has everything I think it takes to be great.”
This isn’t Clyburn's first comment about Judge Childs. Clyburn also said shortly after Breyer announced his retirement, “I want us to make sure that it is a Black woman, I want to make sure that it's a woman that will get universal support. When I say universal I mean bipartisan support and I know that Michelle Childs will have support of several Republicans, including the two Republican senators from South Carolina.”
Judge Childs of South Carolina, whom Biden nominated to the U.S Court of Appeals in Washington D.C. earlier this month, has served on the U.S District Court for South Carolina for longer than a decade.
On Jan. 28, White House spokesman Andrew Bates said in a statement according to CNN, "Judge Childs is among multiple individuals under consideration for the Supreme Court, and we are not going to move her nomination on the Court of Appeals while the President is considering her for this vacancy.”
Biden is expected to announce his pick for Supreme Court Justice by the end of February.
