Bowie was approximately eight months pregnant and undergoing labor at the time of her death in May.

An autopsy revealed that Olympic gold medalist Frentorish “Tori” Bowie died from childbirth complications, USA Today reports. Her death was ruled natural, officials said.

According to a report from the Orange County Medical Examiner Office in Florida, Bowie had a "well-developed fetus," and was approximately 8 months pregnant and undergoing labor at the time of her death in May. The report also disclosed that Bowie could have experienced other complications including eclampsia which is “when a person develops seizures after a sudden spike in high blood pressure during pregnancy” and respiratory distress.

"Eclampsia typically occurs after the 20th week of pregnancy. It’s rare and affects less than 3% of people with preeclampsia. Eclampsia can cause complications during pregnancy and requires emergency medical care,” the Cleveland Clinic states.
