Uber Plans To Know If You're Drunk Before You Even Get In The Car
Do you tend to get TURNT UP in wee hours of the night and opt for Uber as a means to get home? Well, Uber plans to know before you even get into a car.
According to the company's recent patent application, the highly popularized ride-sharing app has come up with a way to tell “the state of the user” by studying your use of the app.
According to the New York Post, Uber plans to know if you're drunk by analyzing a number of factors:
"The patent imagines a world where you might stumble out of a bar at 2 a.m. and the app will be able to know if you are drunk based on the angle you’re holding your phone, how you are walking and how you are interacting with the app compared to other times you’ve used it.
"For example, the app will be able to register the speed at which you switch through pages and type directions — skills that are normally impaired after too much alcohol."
So what is the purpose behind the application filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, titled “Predicting user state using machine learning”?
Although Uber has yet to give any official details about the "drunk-detecting tech," it appears the purpose is to help keep both drivers and riders safe by pairing customers that appear impaired with a driver equipped “with experience or training with users having an unusual state.”
We get it.
However, we do wonder if this pending feature will make drivers less likely to want to pick up those who are impaired. Just a thought.
