Whitney Houston’s Iconic South African Performance Is Coming to Theaters for Its 30th Anniversary
Whitney Houston’s 1994 concert in South Africa, following Nelson Mandela’s historic election, is set to make its way to the big screen this fall.
The iconic performance has been fully remastered for a theatrical release titled “The Concert for a New South Africa (Durban),” according to an announcement made Tuesday by Whitney's estate, Sony Music Entertainment, and Trafalgar Releasing.
Limited screenings will take place on October 23 and 27 in over 25 countries, showcasing the legendary singer’s never-before-seen performance from Durban.
The concerts drew more than 200,000 attendees, with proceeds benefiting numerous local South African children's charities through the late star’s foundation.
Fans can also look forward to a live album, The Concert for a New South Africa (Durban), set to drop on November 8.
The project will feature some of the Grammy Award winner’s greatest hits, including “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me),” “I Have Nothing,” and more, as well as an unreleased track, “Love Is.”
