[Listen] Here's Why Everyone Is Saying Damian Lillard's Rapping Is Ready for the Next Level
On the curve of ballers rapping, Damian Lillard has emerged as arguably the best athlete rhymer of them all, currently. Hell, he's slinging rhymes as easy as he's droppin' dimes, droppin' dimes.
The Portland Trail Blazers' two-time All-Star point guard built a cult-like following with his 4-bar Friday freestyles and has amassed upwards of 4.5 million plays on his SoundCloud page, including the 40,000-plus and counting for his new track, "Talk to 'Em," produced by Jahlil Beats.
Listen below.
Now, his rhymes might be ready for the next level. TMZ Sports reported Tuesday that "several major labels" are vying to sign Dame to a recording deal.
Lillard's agent, Aaron Goodwin, wouldn't name the record labels, but did mention that they'll consider his suitors once the NBA playoffs conclude next month.
"We've put it on hold until the summer," Goodwin told TMZ. "We will explore those options versus starting his own label. A distribution partner is really what's needed."
Hey, there are athletes who succeeded rhyming — Shaquille O'Neal. Come on, the Diesel went rhyme for rhyme with the Notorious B.I.G. and went platinum.
And there are ballers who failed in epic proportions — *cough* Kobe Bryant *cough*.
But Lillard's pretty nice with his bars.
You agree? Which label would be a good fit for Dame?
