21 Savage Drops A Dose Of Reality On 'OGs' Who Criticize Rap's New Generation

"Don't use us as the scape goat!"

21 Savage recently penned an open letter defending his fellow rappers of the new generation on Nov. 21. His message criticized the OGs of the game for constantly blasting new artists about the content of their music. And while the culture has often been divided, T.I. is apparently siding with the trap star.

In 21’s letter, he posed the question of why OGs are so hard on the new school. "Why do so many of these 'Og Rappers' judge the new generation? They say we make drug user music like making drug selling music is better what's the difference,” he asked. "Artists been snorting cocaine and smoking crack since the 70s and 80s did y'all forget that? Instead of judging how about y'all make a change."

He also demanded that artists stop blaming them for the current state of hip-hop. "Don't use us as the scape goat! Our music is a reflection of what's going on in our community and all we doing is using our talent to escape that community,” he added.

After catching wind of 21’s post, T.I. responded. “Lil bro speaking real truth tho,” he said. “The fact of the matter is… There’s been good, bad, great, mediocre artists & otherwise in EVERY generation… Even ours (2000s), The Founding era (80s) & the golden era of the 90s. They’re not the only generation to make ‘user music’ either.”

The conversation of “drug music” has grown new legs since Lil Peep passed away due to an apparent drug overdose. His music, along with other artists like Lil Uzi Vert, 21 and Future, often included lyrics regarding drug abuse.

It’s unlikely the discussion about today’s hip-hop and drug use in the genre will die down in the near future. But it is nice to see 21 Savage and a vet like T.I. agreeing on something.
