50 Cent Granted Boxing Promotions License in Nevada
50 Cent's boxing promotions endeavor continues to move forward as the heavyweight hip hop artist has just been granted his promoter's license in Nevada. The Nevada State Athletic Commission approved Fif's application at its monthly meeting Thursday, setting the table for him to begin putting on fights in the state, ESPN reports.
The license was granted to SMS Promotions, the new company 50 started after allegedly falling out with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his TMT group. Earlier this month, 50 said he was breaking ties with TMT Promotions after Mayweather had failed to live up to his financial obligations to the partnership. Later, however, he claimed that the rift, which largely played out over Twitter, was just a publicity stunt.
Whatever the status of that relationship, 50's first fight as a promoter under SMS Promotions will take place Dec. 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, when his fighter Yuriorkis Gamboa squares off against a yet-to-be-named contender on the undercard of the fourth match between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez. 50 is already licensed in his native New York.
