Megan Thee Stallion Speaks on Lil Kim in New ‘Club Shay Shay’ Interview
Megan Thee Stallion was the latest celebrity to join the “Club Shay Shay” podcast on Monday (June 1). When host Shannon Sharpe asked her what female rapper she’d listen to working up or want to be like growing up, she mentioned her mother but also didn’t hesitate to give Lil’ Kim her flowers.
“I used to wanna be just like my momma ‘cause my momma was a rapper. But my momma favorite female rapper was Lil’ Kim so she put me on Biggie before she put me on Lil’ Kim,” the “Big Ole Freak” rapper said. “I used to love Biggie so much, I still love Biggie. She was like, ‘If you love Biggie, I got something for you that’s gon’ f**k you up. Then she start playing me Kim and I was like ‘What is this?’ So, I definitely was on Kim early but my momma was my favorite female rapper.”
Elsewhere during the conversation, Megan recalled the time she met “The Jump Off” hitmaker. “Of course I’ve met Kim,” Megan began. “You would think how much s**t Kim be talking with that deep a** voice on them f**king beats, you would think she finna be tall as a motherf**ker and the voice finna be deep like that. I met Lil’ Kim and she was like ‘Hey, wassup.’ I was like ‘KIM, Kim, Kimberly, where is the real Lil’ Kim? ‘Cause this ain’t Kim.’ But she is so nice and she’s so sweet. She gives just like baby girl energy. Like she’s just so cute and petite and nice, and I was like, ‘I can not believe you are this sweet.’ I love her.
The Houston native recently dropped her third studio album, Megan, her first as an independent artist. The 16-track project includes collaborations with GloRilla, Victoria Monét, UGK, Big K.I.R.T., Buddah Bless, Yuki Chiba, and Kyle Richh. This past Sunday (June 30), she opened up the BET Awards 2024 with a high-production performance of “Where Them Girls At,” and “Hiss” before transitioning into “BOA.”
